We underestimated the height of our mattress, and we also didn't realize how high the mirror above the dresser is.
Does it look that bad? Be honest, please!
[As I see it, we have three options: (1) Keep the bed as it is, if it doesn't look stupid. (2) Remove the box springs -- but then, where would we put it? Also, we're supposed to use the mattress with the box springs. However, the bed has a ton of slats running across it, so we may be OK. (3) Return the bedroom set to switch for a new one that hopefully won't take an additional 2.5 months to arrive.]

I like it. I actually prefer beds that are higher, so I think it looks good.
However, if you aren't happy with it, I'd probably return it only because it sounds like this is a bedroom set that you're going to keep for years, right? So if you don't like it now, you may end up hating it down the line. Even if it takes awhile to get a new one, you might be happier down the line having one that you love.
I honestly do think it looks fine though!
That's all I need to hear -- that it doesn't look downright stupid. I think I just need to get used to it (kind of like that color in the guest room!).
LIke K said to me, we've been sleeping on the floor for 3 months. Of course it looks high!
And if it still looks high in a week or two, CG suggested we just take away the box springs. Sounds like a much easier plan than taking this puppy back! Especially since we really do like it.
I love it! It looks nice, elegant and I think you will love it!
If you do decide to take away the box spring (which I don't think you need to do!), you can likely get a sheet of plywood cut to fit the bottom...friends of mine did that to make a platform bed...
The mirror looks great!
I'd keep it...but if you aren't happy return it now so you don't spend the next 35 years regretting it!

No, doesn't look stupid at all. I would take the mirror off the dresser and put it behind the bed. You are missing some height behind the bed. We put little shelves with pictures on them behind our bed. You need some color on the walls and some pictures or something. It just looks bare. When there is stuff on the walls it will look better.
The bed looks to be on the higher side, but not stupid high. Princess high! Woohoo.
YAY! No one (yet) thinks it looks stupid! :)
Kari, great suggestion on the platform bed. I think we'll stick with it the way it is now in the meantime. If we decide later to remove the box springs, we may very well use your idea!
Knot, we're definitely going to hang some things on the walls and add decorations. We've just been waiting all this time for our bedroom set to help determine what goes where.
I actually have a pretty crazy idea that I'm really excited about for the wall by the bed. I'm going to do some research about it today. Hopefully I'll have amazing pictures to post in a week or two!
A, I like your style! ;)
Here's what I think. You just need to add some height on the bedside table to balance it out. Definitely a taller lamp and perhaps a small picture on the wall above the table. I would keep it simple above the bed, don't put anything large there, because your bed is large enough as it is. You'll want something in the corner by the window, too for some balance. I don't think the bed looks bad, and you certainly don't want to remove the box springs! The mirror over the dresser looks great, and I would keep it there. So those are my two cents! Have fun decorating! :)
Another idea -
Not sure how much your matress was, but heres a tip if you actually entertain the idea about getting rid of the box spring:
It is important to replace your box spring when you purchase a new mattress. A properly supported mattress will give you additional years of use and comfort. The two pieces work together, acting as a unified shock absorber. Also, many mattress warranties require a matching set.
I know as much as I paid for my matress, I will NOT be using it without the box spring.
That said, there are two sizes of box springs: regular profile and low profile. I think they are 9.5" and 5" respectively...something like that. So, if you still aren't sold after a while, you can look into just getting a lower profile box spring which will lower your matress about 4" or so.
Anway, it's another idea for you...
I totally agree with everyone else that it looks great! But, I understand your initial hesitation because I like the look of lots of pillows on the bed, but yet not wanting to hide the pretty headboard you love as well.
I agree with Liz- I prefer higher beds. It makes you feel like a princess :) (just don't fall out of bed) The set is gorgeous!! xoxo GFF
